Omelettes Omelettes

A few more attempts at making the perfect omelette!! I've learned not to overcook them, but the flipping part is still kinda hard. And in the last one I just added left over stir fry meat and vegetables for added flavours. Turned out to be quite a lot of food in the end.... Eggs man, they fill you up!

My Very First Turkey Dinner!

Delayed post!

This was from last year... So the year before, a good friend of mine Andy decided that he'd try to cook a turkey himself. He youtubed and googled up the recipes and all the cooking process (including brining the turkey!), then he invited a few of us over to "test" his first masterpiece. The turkey turned out a little overdone, but nonetheless the flavours were there, so I'd say not bad for someone who hardly cooks at home. Hey! Just like me!!

So that gave me an idea. If he could do it and not burn down the kitchen, why can't I?!! So I asked him for the youtube clip he found plus some more other research I did on my own and I tried to whip up a turkey dinner for the fam the year after. I was so confident in myself that I decided to invite my sister's fiance at the time (they're married now) to come over as well. I've bought all the ingredients, except for the turkey, and made up a menu in my mind with garlic mashed potatoes and brie cheese and the prosciutto bruschetta I just attempted not too long ago and everything would be perfect...... WAIT! Did I say I haven't bought the turkey yet???!!??! So retarded me didn't realize that turkeys come frozen at the supermarkets till like the last minute when I went to buy it after work the night before the big feast. I was freaking out and of course at the time, I didn't know you could quickly thaw turkeys in water, or that sometimes supermarkets will sell small thawed turkeys. So I was this close to giving up and be all shameful and just get a roasted chicken instead, but luckily thank goodness I found thawed young turkeys at one of the supermarkets and I felt like my life has just been saved.

So on the big day, I put together the turkey by following the youtube clip step-by-step, popped it in the oven, and started on my mashed potatoes and the bruschettas. I could see that my parents wanted to help but they didn't know how because Western cooking is foreign to them. But they wanted to learn, because they were constantly asking me questions like what is that and what am I doing right now, etc. Thank goodness for my parents though because we had to cook the turkey by ear without a thermometer, and the turkey turned out great and it wasn't even burnt at all!!!

I also tried to make a baked brie with clove garlic that you were supposed to be able to spread onto your bread which I had at a restaurant once. But I failed miserably on that one. The brie was melting and the garlic wasn't even done at all!!! I'm not sure if you were supposed to pan fry the whole garlic first or bake it first then pop in the brie for a few seconds.... I shall figure that out one day because that shit was delicious!!!

Original version that I had at the restaurant

My version that I failed miserably

There was my roasted garlic mashed potato in which I put a lot of butter in it because I love buttery mashed potatoes and with chives in it of course. Also it happens to be around my sister's birthday so I also bought her an ice cream cake as a surprise!!
